North West Ambulance Service’s workforce management solution.

Aspirer

Digital Workforce Management Tool

The goal with developing Aspirer was inspired by the trust’s need to progress from using paper reports to record employee’s timesheets. This has since developed into a full-scale development of several modules including Digital Shifts; Contact Shifts, SOC; and Appraisals- with more to be added in future developments.

The Background.

Aspirer is the first real-life project I had worked on in 2022, during my internship with NWAS. Development had begun a few months prior to finding a solution to digitalise the current paper process for documenting workforce management of the ambulance service, so all prior research had been conducted by my colleagues. I was tasked with focusing on the design section of the process…

The Wireframes.

To begin with, I created a series of paper wireframes to present back to my team. These included low-detail but wide-variance designs in order to capture a larger range of ideas. Once I had iterated through several development cycles, we had decided on a layout/style.

The Review.

Alongside this, I had also written an extensive UX review of the current stage of the application. This entailed discussion on any good points, bad points, and recommendations based upon my previous knowledge and research.

The Logo.

Another element of the project I was heavily involved in focused on developing a logo for Aspirer. This process involved several iterations of hand-drawn ideas, which then followed group discussion, as well as conducting a focus group to produce a final design.

The Style Guide.

Once a final design had been agreed upon, I set about working closely with our developer into creating a style guide for Aspirer. This involved discussion on each element needed, and creating a document to hold this in for future reference. The need for consistency is something often overlooked in the trust, so is something as a team we had wanted to solidify early on.

The Prototype.

As a final task, I had been asked to develop a prototype on Figma following all of the work previously conducted. Since 2022, I have updated the style guide and prototype to reflect modern trends and an updated target audience preference- the link to the right showcases the current prototype.
