Hey there! I'm Lucy, a passionate UX Designer based in Lancashire, and I am currently working for the North West Ambulance Service. With a love for creating meaningful experiences, I thrive on designing user-centric solutions that not only meet users' needs but also exceed their expectations.

My journey in UX design has been filled with exciting challenges and rewarding moments, shaping my approach to crafting designs that are both functional and user-friendly. I believe in the power of empathy and user research to drive design decisions, and I am constantly exploring new ways to enhance user experiences.

When I'm not working or studying for my MSc in UX Design, you can find me out on walks or enjoying time at home with my family. Feel free to drop me an email with any questions or enquiries!

FAQs

  • I love UX design because it's a perfect blend of problem-solving and creativity. It allows me to understand user needs, craft intuitive interfaces, and make a tangible impact on people's lives through thoughtful design decisions.

It's both challenging and rewarding, and I thrive on the collaborative process involved.

  • My journey into becoming a UX Designer started in my second year at university, studying computer science. I am someone who likes to be prepared, and have a goal to aim for, so I began researching potential careers I could begin building on prior to graduation. It’s here that I discovered the field of UX, and found it encompassed my love for problem solving with my interest in design.

I signed then signed up for a Google certified UX Design course on Coursera, and quickly found that this is a vocation I wanted to be involved in.

The course gave me the foundations for starting my first ever project, and allowed me to craft a portfolio that landed me an internship at NWAS. This internship turned into a full-time position, where I currently am now.

  • The workflow I typically follow varies between projects. As a foundation, I like to invest heavily in preliminary user research. Whether that involves a heuristic analysis, a focus group, a questionnaire, etc. I fully believe in the necessity of preparedness, something that I’ve found over the years reduces waste in time, money, and effort.

From there, I like to begin ideation. I will use techniques such as beetle, rose bud thorn, and crazy 8’s to allow myself to visualise the concepts I have created in my head in a quick and simple fashion. It’s during this stage that I will work on a first paper prototype- intending to explore a wide range of ideas in low detail. This then is followed by further time invested into user research.

As a general next step, I use Figma to create low-fidelity wireframes- working iteratively between design phases in order to improve on my work.

  • Due to the sensitive information often used when working for the ambulance service, I may not always be able to publish my work to my portfolio. However, please feel free to drop me a message to ask for a private copy of further examples of my work.
